Privacy Policy

The short version

Every calculator, the playground and every quiz work with no account and no personal data at all. The numbers you type into a calculator are processed in your browser and are never sent to us — not logged, not stored, not analysed. That is a property of how the site is built, not a policy we could quietly change: the calculation code runs on your device.

Everything below is the detail behind that, and what changes if you choose to create an account.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Jayanth Pasala operates this site and decides why and how personal data is processed. In the language of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), that makes us the Data Fiduciary and you the Data Principal.

2. What we do not collect

This section comes first because it covers the great majority of what people do on this site.

• Calculator and playground inputs. Amounts, rates, durations, goals and the results computed from them stay on your device. They are not transmitted, not written to any log, and not visible to us. The only exception is if you are signed in and explicitly press Save on a calculation — described in section 4.
• Quiz answers. Your answers are sent to our server to be scored, the result is shown to you, and nothing about the attempt is retained — whether or not you are signed in.
• Passwords. There are none. Sign-in is through a provider or a one-time emailed link, so there is no password store here to breach.
• Financial account details. We never ask for a bank account, card, PAN, Aadhaar, demat or broker credential, and you should never enter one here. Nothing on this site has a legitimate reason to request one.

3. What we collect when you simply read

• Request logs. Our hosting records standard information about each request — the page, the time, the browser type and the network address it came from. This is inherent to serving a website and is used for reliability and abuse investigation.
• Security records. We keep an audit record of administrative actions and of requests that were refused. Where a network address appears in these records it is stored as a keyed hash rather than the address itself, so repeated abuse from one source is still visible without us holding a directly identifying value.
• Your theme preference. Stored in your browser so the site opens in light or dark as you chose. It never leaves your device.

The lawful basis for the first two is the “legitimate use” of maintaining the security and integrity of the service.

4. What we collect if you create an account

Accounts are not available on this deployment, so no account data exists. If they are enabled later, this policy will be updated before they are, and this section will describe exactly what is held.

5. Cookies

The site sets a small, enumerated set of cookies and browser storage entries. Each one is listed individually — with what it does, who sets it and how long it lasts — on the cookies page.

Nothing in the analytics or advertising categories is set unless you have accepted that category. Cookies needed to keep you signed in are set only after you sign in.

6. Analytics

No analytics are running on this site at present. If that changes, analytics will be loaded only after you accept them, this policy will say so before they are switched on, and no calculator input, amount or result will ever be included in an analytics event.

7. Advertising

This site carries no advertising at present. We intend to introduce it in future to cover running costs. When we do, this policy and the cookies page will be updated before any ad code is served, advertising cookies will be set only with your consent, and ads will never be placed inside a calculator’s results or between a quiz question and its explanation.

8. Who else processes your data

We do not sell personal data, and we do not disclose it for anyone else’s marketing. Data is processed by the providers needed to run the service, each acting on our instructions:

• Vercel — Hosting and content delivery. Produces standard request logs. (Global edge network, including outside India.)

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

9. Where data is processed

Several of the providers above operate outside India, so personal data may be processed outside India. The DPDP Act permits this except to territories the Central Government restricts by notification, and we will stop using any provider that becomes restricted.

10. How long data is kept

• Account data — until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your saved calculations and bookmarks with it.
• Request logs — retained for a short operational period by our hosting provider.
• Security audit records — retained separately and longer, because their purpose is to detect abuse after the fact. They contain hashed rather than plain network addresses.

11. Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to production data is restricted, every administrative action is recorded, and authorisation is re-checked against the database on each request rather than trusted from a token. No system is immune, and we do not claim otherwise — if a breach affects your data we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as the DPDP Act requires.

12. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you may:

• Access a summary of the personal data we process about you and who it has been shared with.
• Correct data that is inaccurate, and complete data that is incomplete.
• Erase your data where it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for.
• Withdraw consent at any time, as easily as it was given.
• Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.
• Complain to us, and then to the Data Protection Board.

Write to privacy@freefinance.site and we will respond. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

One duty runs the other way, and the Act is explicit about it: you must not impersonate someone else or file a knowingly false or frivolous complaint.

13. Children

The DPDP Act treats anyone under 18 as a child and requires verifiable parental consent before their personal data is processed. We are not set up to obtain that, so accounts are for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly create an account for anyone younger; tell us if one exists and we will delete it.

The learning material itself is suitable for students and can be read freely without an account, which involves no personal data of any kind.

14. Changes

If this policy changes materially — in particular before any advertising or analytics is introduced — the date at the top of this page will be updated and the change described here.
