About FreeFinance
An independent, free financial education project — calculators, interactive tools, guides and practice, built for people learning finance in India.
What this is
FreeFinance is a set of financial calculators and learning material. The intent is narrow and specific: help someone go from not understanding a concept to being able to use it, in one sitting, without paying for anything or handing over their details.
Most calculators on the internet give you a number and stop there. That is fine if you already know what the number means. If you do not, it teaches you nothing — and worse, it can leave you confident about something you have misunderstood. Every calculator here shows the formula it used, a worked example, the assumptions baked in, and where the model stops being reliable.
Who builds it
FreeFinance is built and maintained by an independent developer. It is not run by an asset management company, a broker, a bank, or a financial advisory firm, and it is not affiliated with any of them.
To be direct about what that means: the person writing this is not a licensed financial adviser, and does not claim to be. There is no SEBI registration, no NISM certification, and no professional accreditation behind this site. What there is, is arithmetic that is tested, sources that are cited, and assumptions that are stated out loud. Judge the content on that basis.
How it is funded
At present it is not. There is no paid tier, no sponsored content, no affiliate links to brokers or fund houses, and no commission on anything. If advertising is introduced later to cover hosting costs, it will be disclosed clearly and it will not be placed inside calculator controls or allowed to interfere with the tools.
What it is not
- It is not investment advice. It does not know your income, goals, tax position, existing holdings or risk tolerance, and it cannot recommend anything for you specifically.
- It is not a forecasting service. A projection built on a rate you typed is a demonstration of compounding, not a prediction of the market.
- It is not a substitute for a professional. For decisions that matter, talk to a SEBI-registered investment adviser.
Standards
- Formulas are tested. Every financial calculation has automated tests covering normal, zero, negative, decimal, extreme and boundary inputs.
- Claims are sourced. Anything about rates, rules or regulation links to the authority that published it, with the date it was checked.
- Facts and assumptions are labelled separately. You will not see “you will earn 12%” here. You will see “assuming 12% a year”.
- Nothing is invented. No fabricated statistics, no invented experts, no fake reviews, no accreditation that was not earned.
Corrections
If you find an error — in a formula, a fact, or an explanation — please report it. Being corrected is considerably better than being wrong in public. You can reach the site through the contact page.
